Bale-out furnaces are essential in foundries and metalworking industries, such as automotive, electronics and jewellery, owing to their high efficiency, precise temperature control and robust construction, says furnace solutions company Ultrafurn.

One of the key advantages of bale-out furnaces, is their high melting performance, which makes them suitable applications using a variety of metals, including aluminium, zinc and copper alloys.

They are also designed with advanced insulation materials and energy-efficient heating systems which minimise heat loss and reduce energy consumption. This not only lowers operational costs, but also contributes to a more sustainable production process, says Ultrafurn.

Further, their robust construction results in low maintenance requirements. Features such as “easy-to-replace” heating elements and durable insulation materials contribute to the furnaces’ longevity and reliability.

Safety is also a critical aspect, with bale-out furnaces equipped with over-temperature protection; emergency outlets to facilitate the safe draining of the melt in case of crucible breakage; and integrated safety systems, such as, for example, the crucible breakdown monitor that provides visual and audible alerts in the event of a crucible failure – all of which prevent or mitigate the risk of potential hazards.

Technical Specifications

Ultrafurn’s bale-out furnaces, which can reach temperatures up to 1 320 °C, are equipped with “high-quality” heating components for uniform heating, including Kanthal A-1 or SiC rods, which are arranged to ensure even heat distribution.

They also have advanced digital proportional integral derivative controllers to regulate the furnace temperature. These controllers allow for easy monitoring and adjustment of the temperature settings, while the multi-layer insulation helps to minimise heat loss and maintain low external wall temperatures. This insulation is made from materials that are durable and energy efficient.

Further, Ultrafurn’s bale-out furnaces are available in both electrically-heated and gas-fired versions, depending on the specific application requirements and the available infrastructure.

For example, its A25 bale-out furnace offers efficiency and precise heat treatment at temperatures up to 1 200 °C. The company suggests that it is ideal for annealing, tempering and stress relieving, and is equipped with an advanced air-flow system and designed to promote user-friendliness.
