Spectrometer and analyser supplier Spectrometer Technologies will for the fifteenth consecutive year exhibit at the Investing in African Mining Indaba held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from February 4 to 7.

The company supplies products such as those of biotechnology product development company Thermo Fisher Scientific, as well as analytical, bioanalytical and optical systems provider Analytik Jena. It supplies the mining, mineral, food and pharmaceuticals industries.

The company will showcase the Thermo Scientific Niton handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer, and the new Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 Plus handheld XRF analyser, and interested parties can even have a sample tested, he advances.

Spectrometer Technologies director Mirko Steinhage notes that the analyser has many applications such as geochemical analysis from greenfield exploration, mining, grade control and ore trading. Additionally, the analyser can be used for metals, precious metal alloys and rare earths calibrations, as well as positive material identification. The product has been engineered to withstand harsh environments and has a certified IP54 rating, with detector technology ProGuard minimising puncture risk when analysing sharp items.

“Moreover, the Niton XL2 Plus includes a hot swappable battery, ensuring continuous analysis without having to switch off the instrument to change the battery. Samples can be analysed quickly and easily, as it is a handheld analyser,” he points out.

Meanwhile, he highlights that more than 4 000 Niton portable XRF spectrometers have been sold in Africa to date. Spectrometer Technologies has three offices in South Africa and offices in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda; it also has partners in Ghana, Kenya and Namibia. “We are expanding our reach into Nigeria by setting up a partnership with a locally based company,” Steinhage adds, mentioning that the company’s network of offices ensures quick response times and assistance to clients.

Moreover, the company has a fully equipped service setup in Johannesburg and offers after-sales services on all the instrumentation it sells.

Steinhage says he is looking forward to the Mining Indaba to connect with industry stakeholders, build relationships and gauge what the expectations are for the future of the mining industry.

“The Indaba is a premier mining event and attracts key decision-makers. It is crucial for Spectrometer Technologies to showcase its products to a wider audience that it may not normally reach. The event provides the perfect platform to touch base with many existing clients and engage with new and potential clients,” he concludes.
