Industrial chemicals wholesaler US Vanadium has been awarded the single-largest contract in the company's history by the US Defence Logistics Agency's strategic materials team, to supply domestically-produced vanadium pentoxide flake over the next three years.

US Vanadium CEO Daryll Castle says the company is proud to be the sole domestic supplier producing vanadium pentoxide to the National Defence Stockpile and to support US national defence objectives.

"We also want to recognise the leadership of US Senate and House members from Arkansas who have been supportive of this programme and who recognise the importance of stockpiling made-in-US vanadium for use by armed forces," he adds.

US Vanadium is the only current producer in the US of high-purity vanadium pentoxide flake, which is used to manufacture aerospace-grade titanium alloys for defence, aerospace, space and advanced manufacturing applications.

The company operates two facilities in Arkansas that recover and process vanadium from petroleum refining and other post-industrial waste streams, to produce some of the world's highest purity vanadium oxides.

The award by the US Defence Logistics Agency follows US Vanadium's successful 2025 launch of domestic production of high-purity vanadium pentoxide flake production. The project was supported by funding from the agency's research and development office, as well as Traxys North America.

The US remains heavily dependent on imported vanadium. In 2025, domestic production totalled 7 500 t, compared to the US' consumption of 13 000 t.

The US imports most of its vanadium pentoxide from Brazil and South Africa, while procuring ferrovanadium from Russia and China.

Globally, China, Russia and South Africa account for about 80% of vanadium production, which Castle says underscores the strategic importance of expanding domestic processing capacity for vanadium products in the US.
