Every generation of engineers, contractors and designers leaves behind projects that redefine what is possible with concrete – the world's most widely used construction material and the foundation of modern infrastructure. Through innovative design, technical excellence and outstanding workmanship, they establish the benchmarks that inspire future projects and drive higher standards across the construction industry. The prestigious Fulton Awards celebrate these achievements, recognising excellence in concrete design and construction while showcasing the projects and teams that continue to push the boundaries of concrete construction across southern Africa.

Recognised as southern Africa's premier awards programme for excellence in concrete construction, the Fulton Awards celebrate projects that showcase outstanding achievement in the use of this versatile construction material. The awards honour the ingenuity, technical expertise and teamwork required to transform concrete into infrastructure and buildings that serve communities for generations.

The Concrete Society of Southern Africa has officially opened nominations for the 2027 Fulton Awards, inviting owners, engineers, architects, contractors and specialist concrete professionals to showcase projects completed between January 2025 and December 2026. Eligible projects from across the SADC region can be nominated until 31 August 2026, after which shortlisted teams will be invited to prepare detailed submissions for adjudication.

Judged by industry's leading experts

Unlike many industry awards that recognise a project as a whole, the Fulton Awards place the spotlight firmly on concrete itself.

Entries are evaluated by a panel of acknowledged experts drawn from across the built environment, including specialists in concrete materials, architectural concrete and structural engineering. Their assessment extends far beyond the visual appeal of a project, examining the quality of the concrete finish, construction methodology, workmanship, innovation, sustainability, quality assurance and the contribution that concrete makes to the overall architectural or engineering achievement. Judges also consider broader factors such as transformation, community involvement and health and safety, while the Innovation and Invention category recognises technologies, applications and ideas that advance the use of concrete.

This rigorous assessment has made the Fulton Awards one of the industry's most respected technical accolades. Success is determined by excellence in design, execution and the intelligent application of concrete rather than by the scale or prominence of a project. As a result, projects in which concrete forms a defining architectural or structural element are best positioned to demonstrate the qualities the judges seek.

Inspiring continuous improvement

The Fulton Awards provide more than industry recognition. They offer project teams an opportunity to document the innovation, problem-solving, quality assurance and construction methodologies that contributed to a successful outcome. In doing so, companies create a lasting record of technical excellence while showcasing their capabilities to clients, peers and the broader construction industry.

Recognition through the Fulton Awards also helps raise standards across the profession. Every shortlisted project becomes a benchmark from which others can learn, encouraging innovation, improving workmanship and driving continuous improvement throughout the construction sector.

Ultimately, celebrating excellence helps shape the future of concrete construction by highlighting the projects, techniques and people that continue to advance the industry.

Your project deserves recognition

Projects completed or substantially completed between January 2025 and December 2026 anywhere within the SADC region are eligible for nomination, provided they meet the competition requirements.

Nominations close on Monday, 31 August 2026, with full submissions due by 30 November 2026. Judging will take place during February and March 2027, with the winners announced at the Fulton Awards Gala Evening on 5 June 2027.

Exceptional projects deserve to be recognised for the innovation, workmanship and technical excellence they represent. The 2027 Fulton Awards offer project teams the opportunity not only to showcase these achievements, but also to contribute to raising standards and advancing the future of concrete construction across Southern Africa.
