JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Bushveld Minerals on Tuesday announced a 442-million-ton maiden Joint Ore Reserves Committee- (Jorc-) compliant phosphate resource at an average grade of 3.6% for its P-Q Zone deposit, in Limpopo.

The mineralisation, which was defined along a total strike of around 8.5 km, was delineated down to a maximum depth of 400 m for the deposit’s northern farms and 300 m for the southern farms, the company said.

Bushveld CEO Fortune Mojapelo stated that the phosphate resource was larger and of better grades than the company initially expected.

“In the past six months, we have made progress in materially developing the phosphate resource associated with the P-Q deposit, including the discovery of the phosphate zone, the delineation of the maiden Jorc-compliant phosphate resource and the completed positive metallurgical testwork on this mineralisation – all of which attest to the potential of this project,” he said.

He added that given the minimal mining costs of the resource, and recently reported positive metallurgical testwork results, the phosphate project had the potential to significantly enhance the economics of the overall P-Q project.

The extent of the phosphate project’s benefits to the overall project would be articulated in the scoping study, which was currently under way and expected to be completed during the third quarter of the year, Mojapelo said.
