African growth spotlighted at expo
Just four years after its debut at Electra Mining Africa 2022, heavy-duty slurry pump manufacturer Schurco Slurry has transformed into a trusted pumps solutions provider, with projects across 12 African countries.
This is according to Schurco Slurry Africa sales manager Fred Aslett, who spoke to Engineering News & Mining Weekly during Electra Mining Africa 2026.
Aslett noted that the company used the event to announce the South African launch of its dewatering (DW) 200 pump, which further emphasised the company’s deeply entrenched position in the local market and its potential for growth within Africa’s heavy industry and mining sectors.
“Our DW series, which is a purpose-built, heavy-duty mining and dewatering pump line, has been engineered to bridge the gap between fragile clear-water dewatering pumps and heavy-duty process slurry pumps,” he explained.
The DW 200 is a 20 cm discharge size variant, originally launched in the US in February.
Electra Mining Africa offered the ideal platform to celebrate Schurco Slurry’s growth and to launch the pump range in Africa, as it enabled the company to engage with clients and forge new relationships, Aslett added.
As the company continues to grow its footprint and solutions offering, it also expands on the type of industries and markets it supplies.
Schurco Slurry’s heavy-duty slurry offering not only applies to the gold, platinum, iron-ore and quarrying sectors but has also been used in the sugar production, and paper and pulp sectors.
“Many people will often overlook that heavy-duty, large-scale pumps are needed for industrial sectors,” said Aslett.
Schurco Slurry’s engineering team aims to target the sugar processing market in South Africa and other countries including Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.
It is in the final stages of developing, naming and launching the range best suited to the sugar sector, and which is expected to enter the market by November.
Aslett noted that expanding into sector- specific pumps was a direct response to changing customer demands over the past four years, reflecting clients’ evolving needs in response to shifting global markets.
Future Plans
Aslett told Engineering News & Mining Weekly that Schurco’s primary goal is to be known as a reliable, customer-centred and -focused pump supplier across the continent.
“In putting our customer first, we aim to redefine the industry when it comes to slurry pumps,” he added.
Further, Schurco is highly committed to training its people and end-users on how to operate its equipment and has partnered with several colleges to provide “hands-on education”.
“We use a Schurco Slurry pump dimensional/cross-sectional cutout to teach students about critical components like the cover plate, cover plate liner and impellers, as well as assembly and basic functionality.”
The company’s goal is to ensure that when these engineers transition into the workforce at mining houses, sugar mills or other industries, “our brand is the first one they think of”, Aslett concluded.
