African Copper Q4 output up 45%
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed African Copper produced 2 429 t of copper in concentrate at its wholly owned mines in Botswana in the quarter ended March 31, a 45.2% year-on-year increase in production.
The Mowana mine delivered record production of 1 314 t of copper in concentrate in March.
This brought copper-in-concentrate output for the 2013 full year to 9 496 t, up 37.5% on that produced in the 2012 financial year.
African Copper noted that the ore processed in the fourth quarter amounted to 164 588 t, down 7.4% year-on-year.
“We achieved record copper production from the Mowana facilities in our fiscal year. I am pleased to be able to report to shareholders that our team's hard work on improving operations is, at last, paying off and that our Mowana and Thakadu assets are beginning to demonstrate the long life and quality that we believed them to possess,” acting CEO Jordan Soko stated.
