JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – African Barrick Gold (ABG) shareholders on Wednesday voted in favour of the company’s proposed name change to Acacia Mining, with the new name to come into effect on Thursday.

ABG earlier this month explained that its core objective was to develop a business that was recognised as a leading independent mining company in Africa and that it was important for the company name to reflect this.

Of the company’s 410-million exercisable votes, 367.3-million votes had been cast at the  general meeting held to consider the name change.

Of the votes cast, 367.19-million were in favour of the change, while 14 846 were against and 140 231 votes were withheld.
