Transalloys

Transalloys is a South African ferrochrome producer operating in the ferroalloys sector. The company is headquartered in South Africa and specialises in the production of ferrochrome, a key input for stainless steel manufacturing. Transalloys operates smelting facilities that process chromite ore into ferrochrome alloys, serving both domestic and international markets. The company is one of several major ferrochrome producers in South Africa, alongside operations such as Samancor Chrome and the Glencore-Merafe Chrome Venture. As an energy-intensive operation, Transalloys relies heavily on electricity supply from Eskom and is significantly affected by power tariffs and supply stability. The company is represented by industry bodies such as the Ferroalloy Producers Association and engages with regulators including Nersa (National Energy Regulator of South Africa) on matters relating to electricity pricing and supply. Transalloys' production capacity and operational decisions are influenced by global ferrochrome demand, chromite ore availability, and the cost structure of electricity in South Africa. The company contributes to South Africa's position as a leading global supplier of ferrochrome, underpinned by the country's substantial chromite reserves.
