Rand Merchant Bank

Rand Merchant Bank is a South African corporate and investment banking division of FirstRand Group, one of the country's largest financial services institutions. The bank provides a range of services including corporate finance, advisory, debt and equity capital markets, leveraged finance, structured finance, and transactional banking to corporate, institutional and public-sector clients. Rand Merchant Bank is headquartered in Johannesburg and operates across sub-Saharan Africa as well as in London. The division serves mid-cap and large corporate clients, with particular strength in mining, infrastructure, energy and natural resources sectors. It is known for its role in financing major projects and transactions in the African mining industry, including critical minerals and base metals developments. Rand Merchant Bank competes with other South African investment banks such as Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking, Absa Corporate and Investment Banking, and Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking. The bank has built a reputation for structuring complex financing arrangements for resource projects across the continent. Rand Merchant Bank was established as part of FirstRand's evolution in the South African banking sector, building on the merchant banking heritage of Rand Merchant Bank Holdings, which was founded in the 1970s and later became a cornerstone of the FirstRand Group formed in 1998.

WINDS OF CHANGE: The giant Ummbila Emoyeni Wind Farm is visibly changing the electricity landscape of the coal heartland of Mpumalanga. This month, Seriti Green announced that the third phase of the wind component of its 900 MW renewables development in the coal region had entered construction and that 25 wind turbines had already been installed near Bethal, Davel and Morgenzon. The third 155-MW phase advanced to financial close after securing long-term funding from Standard Bank, RMB and ABSA.
