Eni is an Italian multinational energy company engaged in oil and gas exploration, production, refining, power generation and the sale of fuels and petrochemicals. The company is headquartered in Rome and operates in more than 60 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia. Eni is partially owned by the Italian government, which holds a significant stake through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and is listed on the Borsa Italiana. The company's core activities include upstream exploration and production of hydrocarbons, midstream gas marketing and liquefied natural gas operations, and downstream refining and chemicals. Eni holds a major position in African energy markets, with significant operations in countries including Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Egypt, Libya and Algeria. The company is a key partner in Mozambique's offshore gas developments in the Rovuma Basin, including the Coral South floating LNG project and the Mozambique LNG onshore venture in Cabo Delgado province. Eni reported consolidated revenues of approximately €93-billion in 2022 and employs around 32 000 people worldwide. The company has increasingly focused on energy transition initiatives, including renewable power, biofuels and carbon capture projects. Eni was established in 1953 as Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi, a state-owned entity created to develop Italy's domestic and international hydrocarbon resources, and was partially privatised in the 1990s.
