Cennergi

Cennergi is a South African renewable-energy company focused on the development, construction and operation of wind and solar power projects. The company is a joint venture between Exxaro Resources and Tata Power, established to capitalise on South Africa's transition towards cleaner energy sources. Cennergi operates utility-scale renewable-energy facilities that supply electricity to the national grid and corporate off-takers. Its portfolio includes wind farms and solar photovoltaic plants located in areas with favourable renewable-energy resources. The company plays a role in South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, which has driven private-sector investment in the country's electricity generation capacity. Cennergi's operations contribute to reducing the carbon intensity of South Africa's energy mix, which has historically been dominated by coal-fired power stations. The company is headquartered in South Africa and forms part of Exxaro's strategy to diversify its energy portfolio beyond coal mining. Cennergi's projects support the broader energy transition agenda in South Africa, addressing both electricity supply constraints and climate commitments. The venture was established in 2010 as Exxaro sought to expand into renewable energy alongside its traditional mining operations.
