Vumatel

Vumatel is a South African fibre-optic network operator providing open-access broadband infrastructure to residential and business customers. The company is headquartered in Johannesburg and operates primarily in urban and suburban areas across South Africa's major metropolitan regions. Vumatel is a subsidiary of Community Investment Ventures Holdings (CIVH), a black-owned investment group. The company builds and maintains fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and fibre-to-the-business (FTTB) networks, which are then made available to multiple internet service providers on a wholesale basis. This open-access model allows consumers to choose from a range of service providers using Vumatel's infrastructure. Vumatel has rolled out fibre networks in hundreds of suburbs and business districts, making it one of the largest independent fibre operators in South Africa. The company's network passes millions of homes and businesses, with a significant proportion connected and active. Vumatel competes with other major South African fibre operators including Openserve, MetroFibre, Frogfoot and Octotel. The company was founded in 2014 and has grown rapidly through organic network expansion and strategic acquisitions. Vumatel is a member of the Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA) and plays a significant role in South Africa's broadband infrastructure development.
