Msikaba Bridge

Msikaba Bridge is a major road bridge under construction in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, forming part of the N2 Wild Coast Toll Road project. The bridge spans the Msikaba Gorge between Lusikisiki and Flagstaff, crossing the Msikaba River valley at a height of approximately 580 metres above the river bed. Once completed, it will be one of the highest bridges in Africa and among the longest cable-stayed bridges on the continent, with a main span of around 580 metres. The structure is designed to carry the N2 national route, improving connectivity along the Wild Coast and reducing travel times between the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Construction of the bridge has faced challenges including delays, budget pressures and incidents of construction extortion affecting contractors and workers on site. The project is being delivered by the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) as part of a broader infrastructure development initiative aimed at unlocking economic opportunities in the rural Eastern Cape. The bridge is expected to enhance access to remote communities, support tourism and facilitate freight movement along the eastern seaboard. The Msikaba Bridge project represents a significant engineering and logistical undertaking in South Africa's transport infrastructure programme.
