Mauritius

Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, located off the south-east coast of Africa. The capital is Port Louis. With a population of about 1.3-million, the country has developed a diversified economy built on financial services, tourism, manufacturing and agriculture, particularly sugar. The Mauritian rupee is the national currency. Mauritius has established itself as a leading international financial centre and a gateway for investment into Africa, supported by a stable regulatory environment, double-taxation treaties and a skilled multilingual workforce. The country is a member of the African Union, the Southern African Development Community and the Commonwealth. Governance follows a parliamentary republic model. The financial services sector includes banking, insurance, fund management and global business operations, with many multinational corporations using Mauritius as a base for African and Asian operations. The country enjoys strong rule of law, low corruption and a business-friendly regulatory framework. Tourism remains a significant contributor to GDP, while the government has prioritised economic diversification into technology, logistics and ocean economy sectors. Mauritius is widely regarded as one of Africa's most competitive and stable economies.
