Kgosientsho Ramokgopa

Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is a South African politician who serves as Minister of Electricity in the national government. He is a member of the African National Congress and holds a key portfolio focused on addressing South Africa's energy crisis and persistent loadshedding challenges. President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed him to the newly created electricity ministry to coordinate efforts to stabilise the national grid and accelerate the integration of independent power producers into the energy mix. Before his appointment as electricity minister, Ramokgopa served as executive mayor of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, where he gained experience in municipal governance and infrastructure delivery. His current role places him at the centre of government efforts to resolve the country's electricity supply constraints, working closely with Eskom and the National Energy Regulator of South Africa. Ramokgopa's mandate includes overseeing the implementation of the Energy Action Plan and facilitating private-sector participation in electricity generation. He engages regularly with business organisations such as Business Leadership South Africa on energy policy and investment frameworks. His performance in the electricity portfolio is closely watched by industry stakeholders and the public, given the critical importance of reliable power supply to South Africa's economic recovery and growth.
