Japie Du Plessis

Japie Du Plessis is a South African mining executive with extensive experience in the African mining sector. He has held senior leadership positions across multiple mining companies and jurisdictions, including operations in South Africa, Zambia and Ghana. Du Plessis has served in executive roles at Murray & Roberts, one of South Africa's major engineering and construction groups, where he gained experience in mining contracting through its Cementation Africa subsidiary. His career has spanned both mining operations and investment, including involvement with Differential Capital, a private equity firm focused on African mining assets. Du Plessis has been associated with significant mining projects in the platinum, chrome and copper sectors, working with companies such as Tharisa Minerals, Mopani and Ivanplats. His expertise encompasses operational management, project development and strategic leadership in the resources sector. He has been active in addressing skills development challenges facing the African mining industry, a critical issue as the sector seeks to build local capacity and technical expertise. Du Plessis represents a generation of mining executives who have navigated the complexities of operating across multiple African jurisdictions while managing diverse commodity portfolios.
