Democratic Republic Of The Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a central African country and the second-largest nation on the continent by area. The capital is Kinshasa. With a population exceeding 100-million, it is one of Africa's most populous states. The economy is heavily dependent on mining, with the country holding vast reserves of copper, cobalt, diamonds, gold, coltan and other minerals critical to global supply chains, particularly for electric vehicle batteries and electronics. The Congolese franc is the national currency. Agriculture, forestry and hydropower potential also underpin the economic base. The country is a member of the Southern African Development Community and the African Union. Governance is structured as a semi-presidential republic. Despite immense natural wealth, the Democratic Republic of the Congo faces significant development challenges, including infrastructure deficits, political instability and conflict in eastern regions. Foreign investment in mining and infrastructure has grown, particularly from Chinese, European and North American companies. The business environment is shaped by regulatory complexity, security concerns and the need for improved transparency and governance in the extractive industries.
