Power Technologies, a subsidiary of the JSE-listed Altron group, has formed a new consolidated business – Powertech System Integrators – through merging its three existing Powertech IST, Strike Technologies and Technology Integrated Solutions (TIS) businesses.

Former Powertech IST CEO Dr Herb Chikwanda took on the position as CEO of the new business, effective March 1.

Powertech System Integrators grouped its customer-facing staff and sales activities into two business development divisions with a focus on utilities and large power users. The former would include power and water utility companies such as State-owned power utility Eskom, the water boards, metros and municipalities, while the latter would include mining, manufacturing and commercial firms across the general industry spectrum.

Powertech IST former MD Hannes Snyman has been appointed business development executive for the large power users division and Strike Technologies former MD James Calmeyer will head the utilities division.

Further, former Powertech IST Energy MD Donald McKechnie will lead an engineering and technology division that concentrates on the conception, design and engineering of technology solutions and product systems.

Former Powertech IST Industrial MD Johan van der Merwe will head up Power- tech System Integrators’ operations division, which will undertake system integration, manufacturing, production and project implementation activities.

“We are making the whole greater than the sum of the parts by harnessing the synergies of the Powertech IST, Strike Technologies and TIS businesses. The result is a business that is arguably the largest integrated solu- tions provider for the electrical power and industrial infrastructure sectors on the African continent,” Powertech group CEO Neil Kayton says.
