JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) - Tanzania-focused gold producer African Barrick Gold’s (ABG’s) executive director and CFO Kevin Jennings would leave the company to take up a similar role at another mining company.

ABG announced on Wednesday that finance VP Jaco Maritz would assume Jennings’ day-to-day responsibilities.

Jennings would remain with ABG as part of the team overseeing the completion of the initial stages of the company’s operational review, which would run for six months until mid-2013 and was aimed at cutting operational costs.

"It has been a difficult decision to leave ABG, a company with both great assets and people. I have taken real pleasure over the past three years in seeing the business develop and believe ABG will continue to build on the strong platform we have established," Jennings said in a statement.

CEO Greg Hawkins added, "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Kevin over the past few years as we have progressed ABG. While we are naturally disappointed to see Kevin leave us, we understand his wish to pursue this new opportunity in his native Canada and wish him all of the best in his new venture."
