Project Description
The project entails the construction of a new electrolysis plant, which will incorporate the latest technology to allow for a step change in the performance of the plant.

This, in turn, will increase the competitiveness of high-quality Australian zinc across international markets, allowing for greater minerals and metals recoveries at the company’s Port Pirie facility in South Australia.

Potential Job Creation
The project will also support an estimated 1 300 direct jobs and more than 5 000 indirect jobs across Nyrstar’s Australian operations.

Capital Expenditure
About A$400-million, including the Federal Coalition’s commitment of A$50-million and Tasmanian government funding of A$20-million.

The project will start in late 2022, with construction expected to take 28 months, and finish in 2024/25.

The federal government will provide A$50-million for Nyrstar Australia to modernise its Zinc Works smelter.

The new electrolysis plant will incorporate advanced technology that will improve the performance of the Zinc Works facility.
