Name of the Mine
Yaramoko mine.
Location
In the Houndé greenstone belt region, in Balé, in south-western Burkina Faso.
Mine Owner/s
Fortuna Silver Mines.
Brief Description
The Yaramoko property comprises 18000 ha, located on the Houndé belt. The majority of known anomalies and deposits are located along the Boni Shear regional break and the second order Yaramoko Shear.
The mine comprises two underground gold mines – the 55 Zone and Bagassi South.
Brief History
Other than small-scale artisanal mining conducted on a few areas of the mine property there has not been any known production from the Yaramoko gold mine before the start of operations in 2016.
Primary Metals/Minerals
Gold.
Secondary Metals/Minerals
None stated.
Geology/Mineralisation
The north-northeast-trending Boni Shear zone divides the Yaramoko concession between the mainly Houndé volcanic and volcaniclastic rock to the west and the Diébougou granitoid domain, comprising predominantly granitic rock with minor volcanic rock, to the east. The main lithological units are mafic volcanic rocks, felsic intrusions, and late dolerite dikes.
This region is believed to be prospective for orogenic gold deposits, which typically display a strong relationship with regional arrays of major shear zones. The biggest granitic intrusion found on the Yaramoko concession is host to the 55 Zone and Bagassi South Zone gold deposits. Both deposits are situated on the eastern margin of the intrusive in the footwall of the Yaramoko Shear, along conjugated dextral faults located in extensional position to the regional shear zone. The bulk of the gold mineralisation appears in dilatational segments of the shear zones, where quartz veins are thicker and exhibit greater continuity.
Reserves
Total proven and probable reserves as at December 31, 2022, were estimated at 1.16-million tonnes grading 5.89 g/t gold.
Resources
Total measured and indicated resources as at December 31, 2022, were estimated at 460 000 t grading 6.05 g/t gold. Inferred resources were estimated at 141 000 t grading 5.51 g/t gold.
Type of Mine
Underground.
Mining Method
Longitudinal longhole stoping with delayed cemented rockfill is the primary mining method adopted for the 55 Zone and Bagassi South mines.
Major Infrastructure/Equipment
The Yaramoko mine includes a processing plant; a mine service area; a tailings storage facility; a water storage dam, water supply and sewage; mine access; administration; power and communications facilities; site security; and an accommodation camp.
Prospects
The development of the 55 Zone openpit is proposed to start once the Zone 55 underground mine is completed.
