PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Australian coal miner Yancoal on Monday reported that it had restarted longwall production at its Austar coal mine, in New South Wales.

In April, Yancoal halted production at the mine, following the deaths of two employees in an underground wall collapse incident.

Yancoal said on Monday that an investigation into the incident was ongoing, and development works have not yet restarted.

The company was also continuing to review all options for personnel responsible for the development work, including the potential reassignment to other operations at the Austar coal mine, or to alternative sites owned by Yancoal.

In the meantime, Yancoal had relocated the longwall to Panel A8 at Austar, which would provide up to 12 months of production. The miner said that the restart of operations at Austar was done in accordance with the mine’s operating schedule, and saleable coal production was expected to remain unchanged for the full financial year.
