PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior developer WPG Resources on Friday announced that it had received federal environmental clearance for the development of its Tunkillia gold project, in South Australia.

The Department of Environment had also advised the company that the gold project would not require any further assessment or approval under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act before it proceeded.

WPG executive chairperson Bob Duffin has welcomed the decision, pointing to the company’s strong focus on South Australia and its successful track record in project exploration and development.

He added that WPG had also submitted a mining lease application for the Tunkillia project to the South Australian government for assessment, with the proposal including a commitment to ongoing fauna monitoring and reporting during the mine life.

WPG acquired the Tarcoola and Tunkillia gold operations from fellow-listed Mungana Goldmines in May. Previous scoping and feasibility studies had defined a total resource estimate of some 26.3-million tonnes at Tunkillia, grading 1.04 g/t gold for 878 000 oz of gold, as well as 2.5-million ounces of silver, at the 100% level.
