Working Knowledge International was founded as a close corporation in August 2003, with its focus being on conducting on-site medicals for different companies. As the company grew, the decision to establish its first clinic in 2007 was taken, which was located in Benoni, in Gauteng.

Having provided medical examinations at its clinic in Benoni for renowned companies such as Bombela, whose employees worked on the Gautrain project, the need arose to relocate the clinic to bigger premises.

In 2010, Working Knowledge International relocated to Isando, where it expanded its services and it now also includes HIV education and testing, TB training, alcohol and drug education, and wellness programmes. This came as a result of the company’s belief that ‘a healthy employee is a productive employee’.

This ethos is applied not only to the company’s clients, but also to its own employees, as the management of Working Knowledge International commit – as far as reasonably practicable – to protect its staff and visitors from the health and safety risks associated with its business activities.

With the aid of services from professional medical practitioners Dr Rakumakoe and Dr Moodley, the company performs medical examinations on employees working in the mining industry and other industries that need medical examinations as required by legislation.

Moreover, Working Knowledge International has obtained the required licences from the Department of Health to provide primary health care services.

Continuing its success in an increasingly competitive environment, the company believes that its high-quality service offering, knowledge, specialisation and compliance set the company apart from its competitors. This has also come about as a result of the company ensuring that its clients receive the occupational health services required of them in order to comply with legislation.

Working Knowledge International’s mission is to set a high standard of ethics in South African industries with regard to occupational health and safety. Also, the company strives to advise and assist industrial management bodies in achieveing full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act No 85 of 1993.

Also, the company aims to establish programmes that help industry maintain compliance requisites at acceptable standards on an ongoing basis, and provide the services, materials and training with which to do it.

Further, the company plans to be the trusted guide and ally that industry looks to for solutions in occupational health and safety. Owing to this, Working Knowledge International believes that there is a need to educate South Africa’s workforce in such a manner that they benefit from training, thereby enabling them to protect their own health and the health of fellow workers, as well as enable them to become more competent and valuable as employees.

Through the reduced incidence of illness and absenteeism, and through improved control and safety in the work environment, Working Knowledge International brings about increased productivity and increased profits.
