Toronto-listed Americas Gold and Silver has suspended operations at its Galena Complex, in Idaho, after a mineworker died on Tuesday.

The company explained that an underground miner had died in a falling-of-ground incident.

“We are shocked and saddened by this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers of our employee,” stated Americas president and CEO Darren Blasutti

“Our primary focus is supporting those affected and working to fully understand the circumstances that led to this event and to prevent it from happening again in the future.”

The company is working with the Mine Safety and Health Administration and local authorities.

The 60%-owned Galena Complex is located in Idaho’s prolific Silver Valley, a district famous for producing silver, lead, zinc and copper.
