At Enpower Trading, we educate communities about renewable energy, ensuring accessibility for all and building resilient energy solutions to address custom- er’s requirements. Achieving sustainable and inclusive energy solutions in South Africa requires embracing renewable technologies like solar and wind, sup- ported by strong government policies and public-private partnerships.

My advice to young women aspiring to make a difference in the energy sector is to be confident and persistent. Although traditionally male-dominated, the sector is evolving and your contributions are crucial. Seek mentors, network actively and pursue professional development opportunities.

Overcoming challenges in any environment requires resilience and a strong support system. Growing up as the youngest of three children with educator parents, my curiosity and dedication to continuous learning have shaped my approach to problem-solving and innovation in the energy sector. I view challenges as opportunities to bring a unique perspective to the table.

A mantra I live by is, "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." Small acts of kindness create a ripple effect, fostering a cooperative environment, which is imperative to addressing the challenges we face as an industry.

South Africa is on the verge of liberalisation and how we navigate the challenges faced today, will have a far-reaching impact on the future of energy and on generations to come. Our vision at Enpower Trading is to empower South Africans by providing access to cleaner, cheaper power to all. Similarly, through a culture of collaboration and accountability, we hope to empower our staff, enabling our people to grow and thrive in a high-performance environment. We believe in instilling a sense of purpose that provides meaning beyond just personal growth.

It has been in a space of vulnerability where I have found strength in the workplace, having worked in high-pressure environments for many years; determined to not be consumed by the fast pace and high stress. Through hard work and perseverance, I have built up the resilience to actively participate in the change I hope to see. Learning to embrace change and be willing to learn from others has equipped me with the skills to navigate a path in business. My message to other women is to acknowledge that we are more capable than we give ourselves credit for and that together we can create long-lasting impact to improve the competitiveness and strength of women in South Africa.

Enpower Trading is committed to advancing renewable energy education, particularly within the municipal sector, to raise awareness and enhance understanding of renewable energy's potential reach. This is crucial in areas where renewable energy might otherwise be inaccessible without trading initiatives. The growing number of women in the renewable energy field, their courage to challenge norms, commitment to excellence and relentless drive are inspiring a new generation of inspiring leaders.

My journey began in deep rural areas without electricity, where home-schooling was necessary for many years. This unconventional education taught me resilience and resourcefulness, instilling a strong appreciation for determination and self-reliance. As I entered the professional realm, these lessons became invaluable assets. The ability to innovate, leverage limited resources and lead through trans- formation, were key to my career. Breaking through “glass ceilings” in politics and business during the 1980s and 90s, drove me to illustrate that even the humblest beginnings can lead to extraordinary achievements.
