JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Near-term producer Western Uranium has entered into a four-year concentrate supply agreement with a major US utility, the Colorado-based company announced on Monday.

The concentrate supply agreement would run from 2018 to 2022.

Western Uranium president and CEO George Glasier said in a statement that he believed this was the first of several term contracts the company would execute to commit the initial production from the company's mines. As production increases, Glasier said he believed US utilities would favour US production owing to the reliability of supply at competitive prices.

Western Uranium would supply the utility from its fully permitted Sunday mine complex, in San Miguel, Colorado, where production would start in 2016. The complex consists of the Sunday, Carnation, Saint Jude, West Sunday and Topaz mines. The mines were most recently actively mined from 2007 to 2009.
