PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed West African Resources on Monday said that operations at its Sanbrado gold mine, in Burkina Faso, continued as normal, despite political unrest.

Burkina Faso President Paul-Henri Damiba has resigned following a military coup.

West African Resources told shareholders that the change in the political situation in the country appeared to be owing to internal disagreement within the Burkina Faso military leadership over the management of security issues in the north and east of the country.

The company also added that the new military leadership had released a statement, part of which urged the people of Burkina Faso to "go about their business in peace".

“West African Resources remains on track to meet 2022 production guidance of 220 000 oz to 240 000 oz gold at all-in sustaining costs of $1 040/oz to $1 100/oz, and will report cost and production results for the September quarter in the coming weeks,” the miner said.

It added that the company would continue to monitor the situation.
