Weatherly granted enviro licence for Tschudi project
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Weatherly International has been granted full environmental clearance for its Namibia-based Tschudi copper project.
This followed a review by the Namibia Ministry of Environment and Tourism and an external consultant of the environmental amendments submitted by the mining company in February.
"Weatherly is making significant progress towards becoming a midtier copper-producing company and the Tschudi environmental clearance is another important milestone," CEO Rod Webster said.
The company recently completed a bankable feasibility study at Tschudi, which evaluated an openpit, heap-leach project capable of producing 17 000 t/y of copper over an eleven-year mine life.
Mining Weekly Online reported last month that Weatherley had signed a term sheet with RK Capital for an $88-million debt facility, which covered the funding requirements of the project.
The Tschudi project had the capacity to convert Weatherly from a high-cost, underground mining company to a midtier, openpit copper producer.
