Feroza Cassim - MD South Africa

Main activity of company: Wärtsilä in South Africa services both marine and energy customers to ensure reliable performance of their power plant and marine installations.

Date and place of birth: 18 April, Cape Town

Education: I’ve always had a natural inclination towards accounting but wanted more insight into IT so Financial Information Systems seemed like the obvious choice. I haven’t looked back since.

Management style: Participative. I’m confident in the skills and knowledge of my team. Encouraging them to be part of the decisionmaking and brainstorming process is empowering.

Personal best achievement: My role as MD of Wärtsilä South Africa. It really showed that hard work pays off but mostly to stay true to yourself and keep doing your best.

Person you would most like to meet: Naledi Pandor. She has a rich and varied background and remains steadfast in her beliefs.

Philosophy of life: Have regular check-ins with yourself. Ask yourself how you’re doing. Get to know yourself.

Message for other women leaders in the South African business community: It’s our time to shine. Women have so much to offer, but we don’t have to have all the answers. Know your strengths and weaknesses, rely on the resources available to make the best decisions and raise your voice for what you believe in.
