Vital Metals, which is mining at the Nechalacho rare earths project in Canada, has appointed mining sector professional Dr Geordie Mark as its MD and CEO.

Most recently, Mark was the head of mining for Haywood Securities, where he held different roles and subsector coverages from 2008. Prior to moving to Canada, he was a lecturer in Economic Geology and Logan Fellow at Monash University, in Melbourne.

Mark’s appointment forms an important refresh of Vital’s board and executive management, says interim chairperson Richard Crookes.

“With our focus now on developing the Tardiff rare earths deposit at our Nechalacho project, we are excited to have Geordie on board to help drive our growth and project development and believe he has the experience, skills and relationships that can help Vital achieve this,” he commented.

In March, John Dorward resigned as CEO within four months of taking the job. A month later, CFO Damon Colbert also handed in his resignation.
