PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Perth-based Viking Ashanti has increased the gold resource estimate at its Akoase East project, in Ghana, by some 12%.

Following a drilling programme at the end of August this year, the Akoase East gold project’s resource estimate was increased by some 12%, to 20.6-million tonnes, grading 1.2 g/t gold for 790 000 oz of contained gold.

The updated resource model extended the resource some 700 m to the north-east, and outlined multiple sub-parallel zones of mineralisation over a strike length of 3.5 km.

The resource model also confirmed that higher grade mineralisation was best developed in Akoase East’s Alimac prospect, where the thickest and highest grade drill intercepts were reported.

“We continue to expand Akoase East to a very robust and substantial 790 000 oz gold resource based on high quality input data,” said Viking Ashanti MD Peter McMickan.

“We also now have a clear geological understanding of how we can continue to increase this resource, through additional drilling to the north-east and at depth,” he added.
