PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior gold miner Vantage Goldfields on Tuesday estimated that it had lost about A$1-million in revenue from its Lily mine, in South Africa's Mpumalanga province, where a water-bearing fissure was intersected during underground development, resulting in temporary flooding of the lower level of the mine.

The ingress of water into the mine resulted from heavy rainfall in the region, which Vantage previously reported had impacted on production during the three months to March.

Water from the fissure had now been drained and the flooding had stopped.

During the three months to March, the Lily mine produced 6 217 oz of gold, compared with the 7 732 oz produced in the December quarter.

Vantage was currently working to increase output at Lily, with the addition of underground trackless machinery.
