US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the UK Bribery Act
This article has been supplied.
This is an invite to South African business media to join us for a seminar on the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the UK Bribery Act. There are a number of South African entities which are already the subject of investigations by the US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. If a business has any dealings of any sort with US or UK citizens as shareholders, suppliers or customers, then they need to understand the threats, dangers and risks posed by the US and UK bribery and corruption legislation.
This seminar will outline how businesses can understand their obligations in terms of global anti-bribery and anti-corruption legislation, but will also help businesses to develop their own compliance programmes. The presenters are highly qualified and senior practitioners from DLA Piper in the US and UK. They have extensive experience in the areas of foreign corrupt practices, fraud investigation, anti-corruption and anti-bribery issues all of which are becoming extremely important to South African executives.

Simon Airey
Head of Investigations
Simon Airey was a barrister in private practice for 12 years before joining DLA Piper and has extensive experience of a broad range of litigation at all levels of the court system. He focuses on tax and fraud investigations, bribery and corruption, and corporate compliance issues. Simon acts in associated litigation and advises clients under investigation by various enforcement authorities, including the Serious Fraud Office, HM Revenue & Customs and their overseas equivalents.
Simon has gained particular experience in group litigation, acting for groups of individuals or companies where they share a common claim or interest, or seek a ruling in relation to common issues of fact or law. The use of representative actions ensures that the burden and costs of dispute resolution can be shared, the most appropriate test claimants can be selected and some of the concerns frequently associated with litigation (such as adverse publicity, risk, uncertainty and the impact upon management time and reputation) can be minimised.
