North America-focused Uranium Energy Corp (UEC) has been given approval to increase the capacity of its Hobson central processing plant to four-million pounds a year, which will make it the plant with the biggest licensed capacity in Texas and the second largest in the US.

The Hobson plant anchors UEC’s hub-and-spoke in-situ recovery (ISR) production platform in south Texas and will process uranium loaded resin recovered from multiple satellite projects, including the Palangana and Burke Hollow ISR projects.

President and CEO Amir Adnani commented on Thursday that the licensing milestone aided its plans to return the company to production.

“Expanding the licensed production capability to four-million pounds a year is an important step in providing the company upward flexibility without permitting delays for our South Texas hub-and-spoke production platform,” he said.

Further, UEC announced that baseline sampling at its Burke Hollow project’s first production area had been completed – a key step in finalising the authorisation for production within the already approved mine permit area.

Burke Hollow is the newest and biggest ISR wellfield being developed in the US, UEC noted.
