PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Troy Resources has received the final environmental permit for its Karouni gold project, in Guyana, paving the way for construction to start and operations to follow in the second quarter.

The environmental approval followed a detailed review and assessment of the environmental and social impact assessment. The permit is valid for a five-year period, and formed an essential requirement for approval and operation of the mining licence.

“This is another important milestone in the development of Karouni and presents a significant achievement in terms of constructive working relationships between the authorities in Guyana and Troy’s local management team,” Troy CEO Martin Purvis said on Monday.

“Karouni is now gathering momentum in terms of activity on the ground and the mobilisation of a skilled local workforce, and we look forward to meeting our first production target in the June quarter.”

The opencut operation, which would have a mine life of three years, would produce on average 101 000 oz/y of gold, barring the first year in which 104 400 oz is expected.
