TROUBLE SHOOTING

9th August 2019

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan speaking to Eskom Chairperson Jabu Mabuza at the State-owned utility’s results presentation at Megawatt Park last week. Mabuza, who will play the joint role of chairperson and CEO for the coming three months, confirmed that Eskom is facing extremely troubling times, with its debt having risen to above R440-billion. The lack of a final strategic and turnaround plan is equally troubling for stakeholders and citizens alike, particularly in light of the fact that additional fiscal transfers of R59-billion have been approved with very little indication of the conditions attached.
