First bauma Africa trade fair to take place in Joburg in September
The first bauma Africa trade fair aims to promote a stronger partnership between Germany and South Africa and will serve as a platform to introduce key players from the German market into South Africa.
Trade fair organiser Messe München International (MMI) South Africa CEO Elaine Crewe says bauma Africa 2013, which will take place in Johannesburg this September, represents an important aspect of the growing partnership between the two countries, partic-ularly in the mining and construction sectors.
Crewe mentions that the trade fair, which originated in Germany, has been successful in India and China and highlights MMI’s hope to continue this success in Africa.
She says the existing partnership between South Africa and Germany adds a sense of credibility to the event, adding that Germany will occupy one of the nine country pavilions at bauma Africa, which is set to be the largest German pavilion at any African event.
Meanwhile, German Engineering Feder-ation MD Joachim Schmid says South Africa provides significant business opportunities for the federation’s member companies and for other German companies.
He highlights South Africa’s role as a major platinum producer and its being regarded as the gateway into Africa as reasons for German companies deeming the market attractive.
Crewe further states that South Africa is regarded as a politically and economically stable African country, while Germany is “one of the most stable countries in Europe”.
“This will assist in the flow of trade between the two countries, which we hope will increase after bauma Africa. South Africa can offer Germany a wealth of resources, while Germany offers the possibility of foreign investment and growth for our mining and construction sectors,” she concludes.
