Tintina files mine operating permit application for Black Butte copper project
TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – TSX-V-listed Tintina Resources has submitted a mine operating permit (MOP) application for the Johnny Lee copper deposit at its flagship Black Butte project, to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
The application comprised a comprehensive document detailing the development plan for this high-grade project, while safeguarding the environment, the company advised.
Following four years of base line studies, the MOP application included detailed studies completed by third-party consultants outlining a mining proposal for underground, surface facilities, closure, and reclamation.
The Black Butte project had the potential to be the largest employer in Meagher County and provide a significant economic boost to Montana, while effectively protecting the local watershed. The MOP application included a cemented tailings facility design that entailed the innovative use of known technologies which, along with a reverse osmosis water treatment plant, was designed to protect all surface and ground water
The project’s small environmental footprint, location close to infrastructure, and a skilled local work force enhanced project metrics.
The MOP application would be vetted through a process of completeness and compliance with the Montana DEQ, until the department deemed the application complete and ready for an independent third-party environmental impact study.
With a measured and indicated resource of 11.57-million tonnes at an average grade of 3.57%, the Black Butte copper project's Johnny Lee deposit was considered one of the highest-grade copper developments currently under development in the world.
Tintina's stock gained 17% on the announcement, adding a penny on Wednesday to close at C$0.07 apiece.
