PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Tiger Resources has reported a 7.5% increase in the mineral resource at its Kipoi Central operation, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The miner said on Thursday that the mineral resource now stood at 690 000 t of copper, following from a revised cutoff grade and incorporating mining depletion to the end of December last year.

The Stage 1 heavy mineral sands ore reserve increased by 6%, to 71 000 t of copper at the end of December, while the Stage 2 solvent extraction electrowinning (SX-EW) reserve increased by 40% to 625 000 t of copper.

Tiger MD Brad Marwood said that the company would continue its focus on adding additional mineral resource and ore reserves at each of its deposits across the Kipoi project, to further extend the current 11-year mine life of its SX-EW operations.

The SX-EW plant would start copper cathode production in the second quarter of this year, and would produce about 25 000 t of copper cathode in its first full 12 months of production.
