PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Project house Thiess has been awarded a A$212-million contract from US major Chevron to provide miscellaneous civil work at the Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, in Western Australia.

The works covered under the new contract could include earthworks, underground services, concrete works and temporary building works.

Thiess was currently working on a range of contracts at both the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects.

The Gorgon project, which is jointly owned by Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas and Chubu Electric Power, recently faced a foundation cost increase from A$43-billion to A$52-billion.

The project was expected to start-up in late 2014, with first LNG cargo expected in the first quarter of 2015.
