Tenova, SGS enter final talks over sale of Bateman Projects
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Metals and mining technologies provider Tenova has entered into final negotiations with certification group SGS over the sale of Tenova’s South African engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) business Bateman Projects.
Tenova would remain active in the mining industry, focusing its activities in the technology and equipment sector.
Bateman Projects specialised in providing process plant design and engineering, project management and commissioning, and optimisation services for mineral processing plants over a variety of minerals, including gold, iron-ore, copper, uranium and coal.
The Bateman modular process plant business and expertise would form part of the transaction, which was subject to approval by the South African Competition Commission and was expected to close within the next few weeks.
Based in Johannesburg and active throughout sub-Saharan Africa, as well as providing specialised project services in other parts of the world, the business employed 250 staff and generated revenues of 30-million in the latest financial year.
“With SGS, we have found a perfect fit to pursue further opportunities for our South African EPCM operations to grow within the industry. Tenova will further develop its activities in the mining industry, focusing on the technology and equipment sector,” commented Tenova CEO Andrea Lovato.
Noting that the transaction was expected to close within the next few weeks, SGS CEO Frankie Ng said the acquisition would significantly expand and improve the group’s mine and plant services activities.
