Belgium-based industrial equipment designer and manufacturer Technicgum Polymères is showcasing several of its conveyor belt components at this year’s Electra Mining trade show, including the RacloFlex conveyor belt cleaner, the Star belt tracker and, for the first time, the Sirocco air cannon.

Technicgum Polymères is currently installing 38 Sirocco air cannons at a phosphate mine, with the installation including several types of DN100 air cannons equipped with tanks ranging in size from 50 ℓ to 150 ℓ.

The DN100 50 ℓ air cannons will be installed in the downspouts of the conveyor to ensure unclogging of the humid product on the walls, while the DN100 100 ℓ and 150 ℓ tanks will be installed on the hoppers at the phosphate mine. The Sirocco air cannon’s flow solution eliminates humidity problems and increases productivity.

These products are designed to increase performance and reduce maintenance, which considerably reduces operating costs.

The Sirocco air cannon’s pneumatic unclogging equipment is the Technicgum Polymères’ latest innovation designed specifically for the toughest applications in cement plants.

The technology combines reliability, performance and profitability with a product range available in several forms for extreme temperatures and in head sizes from DN50 to DN150 and tanks from 9 ℓ to 200 ℓ.

Technicgum Polymères says cost-saving improvements for clients have been required for several years, but none have been forthcoming until now. The main problem experienced on high-temperature air cannons is air leaking from the rubber O-rings situated inside the head.

The Sirocco air cannon has resolved this problem through the use of a cast iron seal. This type of seal is unique regarding performance, lifetime and reliability, compared with rubber O-rings that are currently used on all types of air cannons on the market.

This technology also guarantees a significant cost reduction for the client.

The company has also developed reversible aluminum pistons on the entire range (DN100 and DN150) which allows the customer to save on labour costs. This technology can also increase the pistons’ lifetime if maintenance is performed yearly.
