PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Challenger mill has poured its first tonne of gold since its restart in May 2016.

ASX-listed WPG Resources on Monday said that, in addition to the milestone being reached at the mill, in South Australia, ore from the Tarcoola mine was also now being successfully treated through the mill, with the production of the first blended Challenger-Tarcoola gold bars.

“These gold bars represent a lot of hard work by all of our Challenger and Tarcoola site staff and contractors. We are very pleased with achieving these two milestones,” said WPG executive chairperson Bob Duffin.

“Realisation of the synergies between Challenger and Tarcoola, which we identified early on, is now commencing.”

Mining at Tarcoola started in November 2016, and first ore was trucked to the Challenger mill in January.

Tarcoola is expected to have a mine life of two-and-a-half years, and a treatment period of three-and-a-half years.
