PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diversified explorer Talga Resources has doubled its Swedish iron-ore resource to 236-million tonnes, after declaring a maiden Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource of 124-million tons, grading 33% iron, at its Vittangi project.

“The new Vittangi resources are higher grade than Talga’s Masugnsbyn iron-ore project and lie 40 km closer to rail infrastructure,” said MD Mark Thompson on Monday.

“The new combined resource across both projects delivers an attractive opportunity for development, joint venturing or sale. Both projects are contained within the Kiruna mineral district, a mining province hosting the largest iron mines in Europe, and are supported by established bulk commodity infrastructure, including magnetite concentrators, iron pellet plants, grid power, public access rail and port infrastructure,” he added.

Thompson noted that the company’s priority in Sweden remained the development of its high-grade graphite deposits, but added that the new iron-ore results delivered another development asset to Talga.

The company would now review Vittangi’s high-grade sections to identify ore suitable for transportation to a toll treatment facility, while also continuing its negotiations to attract a development partner or suitable buyer for both its iron-ore projects.
