The world is becoming used to white and yellow changing position. Platinum has been touching the $1 700/oz mark, ahead of gold, which is close to the bottom of the $1 600/oz band. Only six months ago, it was the other way round as these two precious metals keep swopping the lead. Gold demand, measured on a value basis, increased to an all-time record of $236.4-billion in 2012, with official-sector central bank buying rising to its highest level in nearly half a century. But that is not reflecting in its price.
