PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Straits Resources has maintained its production expectations at the Tritton mine, in New South Wales, following a solid quarter during the three months to March.

Copper production at the Tritton operation reached 6 302 t during the quarter under review, which was in line with expectations and on par with the 6 306 t produced in the previous quarter.

During the quarter under review, copper grades declined slightly compared with the previous quarter, as the Tritton mine accessed ore from lower-grade stopes. Straits said that the lower grades reflected the natural variation in the orebody, adding that the mining sequence remained on plan.

Meanwhile, ore processing rates have returned to trend following a major plant shutdown in the previous quarter, and Straits noted that the Tritton operation was now mine, and not mill constrained.

For the full year, the Tritton mine was expected to produce about 26 000 t of copper.

Operations at the Mt Muro gold mine, in Indonesia, remained suspended during the quarter. The operation was placed on care and maintenance in August last year.
