Stellar quarter pushes Lucapa to record year

PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diamond miner Lucapa Diamond Company has reported record production for the three months to December, with 14 007 ct recovered during the quarter.

The Mothae operation, in Lesotho, produced 9 837 ct during the quarter, while the Lulo mine, in Angola, produced a further 4 170 ct.

Lucapa on Monday said that the record results for the December quarter contributed to record annual group production of 49 120 ct for the full year, generating combined sales of $55-million.

A total of 287 diamonds of greater than 4.8 ct was produced during the quarter, taking the full year total to 1 164 stones, including five that came in at more than 100 ct each.
