A stabiliser specifically designed for pervious concrete assists in controlling hydration reaction for better workability, while also fluidising the concrete to facilitate improved placement, offering a host of benefits for concrete suppliers, contractors and project owners.

CHRYSO’s EasyDrain technology is designed to eliminate the constraints traditionally associated with batching, transporting and placing of pervious concrete, while improving performance and quality.

Key benefits are improved cost effectiveness, as trucks can be loaded faster to full capacity making transport more affordable, as well as reducing the carbon footprint associated with the delivery of concrete to construction sites.  Concrete is also easier to handle and place, as it is more fluid and homogenous. In addition, there is greater durability, with less risk of cracking and aggregate ravelling.

The product allows customers to take advantage of the superior qualities of pervious concrete, such as its high performance, high drainage capacity, enhanced aesthetic finish and improved durability.

In addition to facilitating full truck loads, the stabiliser allows concrete suppliers to discharge concrete trucks faster without the need for water reducers or cohesion agents. The product also allows for high workability of concrete, resulting in an improved surface finish. Contractors can also install curing membranes quicker, thereby reducing time and labour costs.

CHRYSO EasyDrain can be used for a range of pervious concrete applications, including light traffic roads, car parks, terraces, garden paths, swimming pool surrounds, cycle paths and pedestrian walkways.

The solution involves specific concrete mix design criteria with the use of complementary admixtures that help to improve the quality and performance of pervious concrete. The product was used on the WBHO Vlakfontein reservoir project where the use of CHRYSO EasyDrain was specified to improve the quality of pervious concrete. Several other admixture solutions were also supplied by CHRYSO to this project site, including its Serenis shrinkage reducing admixture, CHRYSO CWA 10 crystalline water proofing admixture, and CHRYSO Omega 178 new generation admixture to improve the water reduction properties and achieve the concrete strength requirements of the specific concrete mix design.
